Stainless Steel Handpan Guide & FAQ
What is the difference between Stainless Steel and Nitrided Steel handpans?
Stainless steel handpans (like our Mountain Rain series) offer a much longer sustain, a warmer and more brilliant sound profile, and elite rust protection. Nitrided steel handpans have a shorter, punchier decay with a ceramic-like tone, making them better for very fast playing, but they require much stricter oiling maintenance to prevent rust.
Does the Mountain Rain handpan require frequent oiling?
Thanks to the premium rust-resistant properties of our stainless steel alloy, it requires significantly less maintenance than standard steel. While we still recommend wiping it down with a microfiber cloth after intense sessions, it does not require constant heavy oiling to stay pristine.
