Scale & Hertz — A Quick Choosing Guide

Hertz (Tuning)

  • 440 Hz — The standard concert pitch (A4 = 440 Hz). This tuning is widely used in modern and popular music and is suitable for general listening and entertainment. most instruments are 440 and can be played together.

  • 432 Hz — An alternative tuning often described as having a warmer or more natural resonance. Some listeners and practitioners prefer 432 Hz for relaxation, yoga, and meditation; 

Scale (Example: D minor — “Kurd” vs. “Amara/Celtic”)
While both variants are minor-based and commonly used, they have distinct tonal characters:

  • Amara / Celtic minor — Characterized by the omission or alteration of the sixth degree, which can create a brighter, more open quality in melodies.

  • Kurd — Retains the sixth degree, producing a richer, deeper, and often more melancholic sound.
